Tradovate
Does Tradovate have a built-in trade copier?
Verified against Tradovate’s own documentation, updated 26 August 2026
Yes. It is called Group Trade, and for a trader running several accounts at one firm it is often all that is needed. Four limits decide whether that applies to you: it only works between accounts held with the same brokerage provider, it runs on the web and desktop apps only, it does not support ATM strategies, and every order has to be a multiple of the group’s total quantity.
What Group Trade actually does
You create a group, drag your accounts into it, and give each account its own order quantity. From then on one order submission is distributed to every account in the group. You can create as many groups as you like. Tradovate describes it plainly:
“Group Trade allows you to place trades across multiple accounts simultaneously with a single click. (…) This feature is often referred to as a trade copier.”
The first account you add becomes the lead account. Changing which account leads means dragging them all back out and re-adding them in the order you want.
Why you might not see it at all
Groups live behind the account dropdown at the top of the platform, under Manage Groups. Two reasons that entry can be missing, and both catch people out:
- You only have one account under that username. Tradovate’s documentation is explicit: if only one account is linked to your username, the Manage Groups option will not be visible. Accounts at a second prop firm sit under a different login, so they do not make it appear either.
- You are on the mobile app. Group Trading is available on the Tradovate Web and Desktop apps only. It is not available on the Tradovate Mobile App, for setup or for trading.
The limit that decides everything: one brokerage provider
“Group Trade can only be used between accounts held with the same brokerage provider. For example, you cannot link a Tradovate account with a prop firm or evaluation service account. However, two Tradovate Brokerage accounts under the same username, or two accounts from the same prop firm provider, can be grouped and traded together.”
In practice that splits traders into two groups. Several accounts at one firm: Group Trade covers you. Accounts at two or more firms: it structurally cannot, because each firm issues its own Tradovate login, and no amount of configuration bridges that. That is a different problem with a different answer, and each firm’s own policy on cross-firm copying applies on top of it — see the prop firm rules matrix.
What Group Trade does not do
- No ATM strategies. Tradovate states that Group Trade does not support them, and that they are disabled for groups larger than five accounts. Stop losses and profit targets are placed manually with stop market and limit orders, with manual OCO where needed.
- Order sizes are locked to multiples. Every order has to be a multiple of the group total. Three accounts at one contract each means a group total of three, so you can submit 3, 6 or 9 — and nothing in between.
- Large groups can hit API rate limits. Tradovate flags this for big group orders.
- Deleting a group with open positions is destructive. Only the lead account keeps its position; positions on every other account are closed automatically. Close everything first.
When Group Trade is enough, and when it is not
It is enough when your accounts sit under one login at one firm, you only need to scale size by a fixed quantity per account, and you are happy placing stops and targets by hand. That covers a lot of traders, and it comes with the platform.
It runs out when you hold accounts at more than one firm, when you want per-account risk rules rather than a fixed ratio, or when you want brackets mirrored rather than managed manually. Tradovate is clear about where its own responsibility ends:
“Tradovate does not offer native trade copier add-ons, only group trading. Any other trade copiers used with the Tradovate trading applications or the NinjaTrader Desktop app are third-party add-ons.”
Whichever third-party tool you look at, check your firm’s rules before you rely on it. Some firms permit copying only between your own accounts, some prohibit copying across firms, and at least one only allows copiers from its own approved list.
Where Syncopy fits
Syncopy is a trade copier for Tradovate, built by the trader writing this page. It runs on your own machine rather than in the cloud, mirrors one leader account to your other accounts across firms, and gives each follower its own multiplier and daily loss cap — the two things Group Trade cannot do.

Why don’t I see Manage Groups in my account dropdown?
Group Trade needs more than one account under the same username. If only one account is linked to yours, the option is hidden. Accounts at a second prop firm use a different login, so they do not make it appear.
Does Group Trade work on the Tradovate mobile app?
No. It is available on the Tradovate Web and Desktop apps only, both for configuring a group and for trading one.
Can I use Group Trade across two different prop firms?
No. It only works between accounts held with the same brokerage provider. Two accounts at the same firm can be grouped; accounts at two different firms cannot, because each firm issues its own login.
Does Group Trade support bracket or ATM orders?
No. ATM strategies are not supported, and are disabled entirely for groups larger than five accounts. Stops and targets are placed manually, with manual OCO where needed.
What order sizes can I use with a group?
Multiples of the group total only. Three accounts at one contract each gives a total of three, so 3, 6 and 9 are accepted and anything else is rejected.
What happens if I delete a group while positions are open?
Only the lead account keeps its position. Every other account in the group is closed out automatically, so close your positions before removing a group.
